Central, Shenandoah advance
Central advanced to the New Castle Sectional semifinals with a 25-17, 25-7, 25-14 girls volleyball victory Tuesday over Connersville in the opening round of play.
The Bearcats were led by Marquita Marshall’s nine kills and seven digs. Christina LeBlanc added six digs with a team-high 29 assists.
Jamie Drummer chipped in with eight kills. On Saturday, the Bearcats (29-4) will take on Greenfield-Central, which defeated Pendleton Heights 25-13, 25-11, 25-13 earlier in the day.
Shenandoah fought back after dropping the first set to snag a 3-1 victory over Cambridge City Lincoln to advance to the Cambridge City Lincoln Class 2A Sectional 42 semifinals.
Karlee Pierce and Kirstyn Pierce registered 15 and 10 kills, respectively, to lead the Raiders. Mackinzie Cox added 23 digs. Shenandoah advances to play Union County.
