MUNCIE — A 23-year-old Ball State University student was attacked and apparently robbed of his wallet as he walked home from The Village early Thursday.

BSU police chief Gene Burton described the student’s injuries as “massive contusions and lacerations” and said he was being treated at Ball Memorial Hospital Thursday morning.

“He got busted up pretty good,” Burton said.

Police believe two to four people attacked the student in the 600 block of North Dill Street about 3:30 a.m.

The student reported he might have been hit with a baseball bat or a stun gun. It is unclear whether he was alone or with friends at the time of the attack.

Police report the student was intoxicated when he was attacked and, at times, provided confusing or conflicting accounts of what happened.

Neighbors reported hearing the attack but did not see it, Burton said.

Burton said late Thursday morning that investigators were waiting for the student to sober up to interview him again to get a better understanding of what happened.
